Hornet Technologies is a long-term, school-based enterprise created to provide technical training in a real-life working environment for interested students. It is also our purpose to help Orange and surrounding localities develop into a technology rich region.

Orange County High School students are able to become interns at Hornet Technologies as early as the start of their freshman year. Those students who are selected as Beginning Interns enter an in-depth training program, learning computers literally from the inside out. Their technical instruction includes the same types of reading and classroom instruction you would expect to find in any high school class. In addition to this, interns also participate in hands-on lab activities designed to reinforce their traditional learning with practical applications. In addition to receiving state-of-the-art technical training, these interns have the opportunity to develop responsible work ethics in a real life setting, receiving regular feedback about their job performance.

Students selected as Advanced Interns return to the program to learn diagnosis and repair, working on computers brought in by individuals from around the community. These interns work in small group settings with technicians as they learn to troubleshoot a broad range of computer problems. Because of their position as Advanced Interns, these students are also taught some basic supervisory and leadership skills which they use as they work with the Beginning Interns in the production area.

Some students have made the choice to seek careers in the computer technologies field. In order to gain entry into this growing area, A+ Certification is becoming a virtual requirement. More intensive training tailored specifically to the A+ Certification Exam is available as the final component of the program.  In addition, we now offer our interns the opportunity to train for the Network+ exam as well.  This allows them opportunities to certify not only as qualified computer technicians, but as qualified network technicians as well.

When the program began, Hornet Technologies built computers for the Orange County Public Schools. While this is still true, others have also made the decision to support our efforts. Currently we also build computers for a number of county agencies including the Orange County Government Offices, and many individuals from Orange and surrounding counties who have chosen to support our program as they make their computer purchases. We also repair and maintain computers while providing a wide range of technical support and training for the community.
